Minimizing Germs in Gyms

If you own a gym, you’re always seeking new clients and the best way to attract new customers is by presenting a clean and hygienic environment. You also know how difficult it can be to achieve that. Without proper precautions, bacteria, viruses and fungi can easily become a problem despite your best efforts. There are effective measures you can take to minimize germs in your gym.

The Facts

Many biological contaminants can be transmitted through touch, remaining on surfaces for several hours. Droplets from a cough or sneeze can stay in the air for up to 3 hours, just waiting for someone else to breathe them in. COVID-19 isn’t as prevalent as in prior years, but there are other viruses and contaminants that can be dangerous for the elderly and very young if they’re exposed, such as flu and RSV.

Disinfectant Wipes

They’re cost effective and you don’t have to use valuable gym space storing cleaning chemicals. High touch surfaces, including gym equipment, can be quickly wiped down and the wipe is then tossed in the trash, thereby minimizing client exposure.

Be sure to place conveniently located disinfectant wipe dispensers and ask clients to wipe down equipment before and after use. It keeps clients happy and demonstrates your commitment to a hygienic facility. You’ll also be freeing staff to attend to more high value tasks.

Disinfectant Soap

While hand washing seems like a small precaution, it can have a big impact. Few people wash their hands often enough or correctly. Don’t overlook the power of disinfectant soap. Even with signage to remind clients to wash, there are always going to be those who don’t.

Hand Sanitizer

Many people have continued to use hand sanitizer, even though they didn’t prior to the pandemic. There are clients that will use hand sanitizer, even if they don’t wash their hands very often.

Masks

The face coverings are no longer a requirement, but there is still a significant number of people that use them. They include parents with small children to the elderly. Make sure clients know masks are available if they want them.
